Kulak Signs with Flames

Congratulations are in order for Giants blue liner Brett Kulak as he has inked his first NHL contract. The 20-year-old defenseman signed an entry level deal with the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.

The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed defenceman Brett Kulak from the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League to a three year entry level contract.

Kulak, a native of Stony Plain, AB, playing in his third full season with the Vancouver Giants, tied for eighth in WHL scoring among defencemen with 14 goals and 46 assists for 60 points and 51 penalty minutes in 69 games. Kulak played four games with the Abbotsford Heat at the conclusion of last season.

Contract terms: Three year entry level contract with an Average Annual Value of $816,667.

The Vancouver Giants would like to congratulate defenceman Brett Kulak on signing a three year entry level contract with the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames.

The Stony Plain, Alberta native was drafted in the 4th Round (105th overall) by the Flames in the 2012 NHL Draft.

"It feels really good for me," said Kulak. "It's a pretty exciting time and it's motivating for me. I just want to work harder and be able to make that jump to pro next year."

Kulak finished the regular season fourth in scoring for the Giants with a career-high 14 goals, 46 assists, and 60 points in 69 games.
